LGBTea You Missed Last Week

LGBTea You Missed Last Week

Howdy fellow hunker-downers! A lot has happened in these last few weeks! Here’s our recap of the latest queer news and pop culture:

Vida (BestMovieCast.com)

Vida (BestMovieCast.com)

1. Vida, one of our favorite shows ever, is in the middle of its final season. While we’re so sad to see it go, we also acknowledge how awesome it is that it even exists in the first place. Vida follows the stories of two latinx sisters, one of whom is queer. They bicker, love each other, dance and have so many awesome and authentic Mexican-American moments that I have cried many times during the show’s three seasons. You do need a Starz subscription to catch up, but it’s well worth the $10 to binge it all in one month!

Dead To Me (Netflix)

2. Fellow lesbian Liz Feldman debuted season two of her hit show, Dead to Me, on Netflix. Dead to Me feels like a show that has its own bones; it doesn’t rely on familiar tropes or traditional storytelling. Season 1 is a little light on the gay side, but season 2 comes in swinging with a majorly queer plotline. Dead to Me is also a really fun watch, falling into the “dramedy” category due to the hilarious performances by all the actors and the concise yet detailed writing.

3. Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande broke the internet with their latest single, “Rain On Me.” The video is fun and electric, giving us a taste of what’s to come on Gaga’s newest album, Chromatica, coming out on May 29th. We may be skipping the clubs at this year’s pride, but we can still dance the night away to these exciting, very gay beats.

4. Strange little creatures flung out of space Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson reportedly called it quits. Quarantine couples are either making it or breaking it, and sadly these two didn’t cut the mustard. Let’s see who gets to keep the sex swing. My money is on Cara.

A Secret Love (Netflix)

5. Ryan Murphy’s newest film, A Secret Love, debuted on Netflix and it tore my heart apart, sewed it back together, tore it out again, and then left me on the floor. The film follows two women in love who inspired the film A League of Their Own (sure to be on many of your “what made me gay” lists) as they navigate aging in place and what it’s like coming out of the closet as elders. This is a must watch!

Homecoming (Amazon Prime)

6. Noted triple-threat Janelle Monae is starring in the second season of Homecoming on Amazon Prime. Homecoming is definitely the type of show you need to watch in order, so go ahead and check out season one if you’re interested in catching up to Janelle. Season 1 is light on the gays, but so far season 2 is making up for it.

7. Rich idiot Elon Musk tweeted some incel bullshit about choosing the red pill. As anyone who is a fan of The Matrix knows, the red pill shows you the real reality, not the computer simulation that is known as the matrix. Noted sycophant Ivanka Trump took the bait and retweeted him, saying “Taken!” I guess this is in reference to California’s stay-at-home orders that forced him to shut down one of his factories, and blondie stays parrotting whatever stupid nonsense the men in her family decide for her. She probably hasn’t even seen the Matrix, but I digress. Lilly Wachowski, one of the creators of the Matrix and an out trans woman tweeted back at both of them and said “Fuck both of you”. Hear hear, Lilly! Off with their heads!

8. Thao finally released her full album, Temple! Go stream it now!
