LGBTea You Missed Last Week

LGBTea You Missed Last Week

Hey, fellow queers! Despite the Coronavirus basically halting all interesting things, some LGBTQ-related news happened last week anyway. Here’s the gist (spoiler alert it’s mostly streaming updates):

Portrait of a Lady on Fire/Neon

Portrait of a Lady on Fire/Neon

1. PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE IS ON HULU. If you haven’t read our Portrait piece, we are big fans. And if you haven’t seen the film yet, maybe you’ve seen its hilariously timely social distancing memes. In any case, get your psychedelics, hot cherry stones and some tissues ready and stream it now!

2. The weirdest, most confusing and insanely terrifying docuseries is out right now, and it’s pretty gay. Tiger King, on Netflix, is just batshit crazy. Try to imagine a mullet-wearin’ gay cowboy in a throuple hanging out with over 200 tigers. I won’t say anything else about it, because this show is definitely better seen without many spoilers.

3. Speaking of the Tiger King, hilarious lesbian icon Kate McKinnon has signed on to play vacant-eyed psycho Carol Baskin. Look for more on that later!

Killing Eve (BBC America/AMC)

4. Killing Eve, the BBC gem that has taken many queers and lesbians by storm, is coming back two weeks early! While we may have some very serious bones to pick regarding their blatant queerbaiting, we can’t deny that Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh look seriously steamy on screen together.

5. As many of you already know, Animal Crossing launched last week and has given all of us a breath of relief to have some entertainment that isn’t stressful in any way. Thank the goddesses that Animal Crossing just so happened to release during everyone’s quarantine! Some are speculating that the game has released its first queer characters… but we’ll check back with you on that later, Picante.

6. Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere features a babygay storyline, and it’s very endearing and sad, just like all our closeted teenage years. If you haven’t read the book or seen the show, expect a prickly, tension-filled commentary on race, art, and identity brought to life by the ultimate dynamic duo, Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington.

7. The gay Argentinians just gained some new eye candy. Sebastian Vega recently came out, and as a queer basketball fan who’s very partial to the Argentinian team myself, let me just say I am here for this! Thank you Sebastian!

8. One Day at a Time, formerly of Netflix, premiered on its new home PopTV last week. We’re glad the Alvarezes are back just in time for our quarantine needs!

That’s the tea! Thanks for reading, we’ll be here same time same place next week! As always, if you have anything you’d like us to cover, shoot us a DM or an email and we’d be happy to take a look. Have a great week and remember to stay safe!
